Language Quality Assurance


Language Quality Assurance, also called QA review or QA evaluation, is one of our central services delivered to our customers.
Almost every business tries to address their customers in writing, mostly trough the company website, newsletters and advertising booklets as well as presentation materials. Nevertheless, they often pay in­sufficient attention to the role of the language used for communicating their existing and prospective clients. In that case, they may expect that readers will sneer at their poorly translated or auto-translated texts, and it may compromise their repu­tation.
Language Quality Assurance is performed on translated texts with the aim of evaluating their linguistic quality according to the standard procedure which includes reporting all kinds of errors, classifying them according to the error type and severity and providing the overall opinion.
When performing QA, our task is not only to evaluate translation performed by other translator or company but we should always be ready to defend and explain our opinion in more detail when the translator objects to the reviewer’s evaluation. Therefore, it is especially important for the reviewer not to mix a true error with a personal preference.
Language Quality Assurance requires much higher qualification, longer experience and linguistic acrobacy from the language specialist than translation and editing. It is similar to continuous sharpening our intellectual tools therefore we especially love it.

Web QA:


  • On live web pages — the customer usually provides the list of URLs to the respecive source pages and target pages. Errors are usually reported in a standard QA form. In general, errors are categorized in a similar way with some differences depending on the client.
  • On screen captures —any screenshots are provided as jpg (image) files. As we know, this format does not allow copying any pasting the incorrect strings therefore any texts visible on the screenshots and containing errors should be rewritten manually in the QA form.
  • By using special QA tools which arrange the source screen and target screen side by side thus ensuring more productive work and ability to view all localized strings in a context. Also, the reviewer can enter any error classifications, severity levels and comments in special cells without leaving the tool.

Help QA – usually on HTML or XML files where the source and target files are aligned side by side for easier work by using a special program.
QA on simulated software screens where all localized software strings can be viewed in UI context. These tools also ensure consistency check functionality which allows the reviewer to identify inconsistencies more easily. The errors may be reported in the same tool which also generates a summary report.
QA on bilingual files (e.g. ttx, itd, xlz, edb) is performed for any kinds of texts translated by using different CAT tools.
